We were fortunate enough to visit a wonderful BSL event organized by the good folk at CommunityID at the Sands Film Studio over at Rotherhithe on Saturday 20th July 2013.
The event was buzzing with activity and had a wonder array of things for both the hearing & deaf community alike. There were also a nice collection of photographs on display exhibiting the talent of some of their photographer. The images were really good with a lot of thought put into the composition. The lighting and over all texture of the images really help bring out the idea - large clear prints helped too !!
One particular photographer - Deepy Chana, who works as the Visual Arts & Marketing Officer with CommunityID explained the concept behind two of his beautiful photographs. He went on to speak about how he had set up the shot with the help of several people who posed in the studio to bring his art work to life.
The event was made quite lively when a few cultural programs thrown into the mix of things. One such program was the appearance of my good friend 'Mr. Roboman' aka Rob Lowe who entertained the crowd with this delicious 'stop-motion-like' moves. His performance not only enticed the kids who would just stare at how well he moved, but also the grownups! It's really not a surprise that he was picked by the London Olympics Organizing committee to perform in the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony last year.
CommunityID had also arranged for a few presentations inside the cinema room about 'Deaf & Interpreter Awareness' which was really helpful in understanding about the deaf culture in and around England.
All in all, it was a good day out to enjoy some good company and share the common love towards a wonderful hobby: Photography.
